Since graduating from Garden City High School in 1964:

I worked for 33 years as a consultant in the field of international pensions and employee benefits, working for William Mercer Consulting, American Express Company, Chase Bank, and Colgate Palmolive. I visited over 30 countries in connection with my work.

My wife is a retired teacher, and since retiring, we have been doing a lot of traveling including frequent trips to visit relatives in California and Australia.  We each come from large families and often take vacation trips with our siblings and their children.

Our daughter is married and teaches fourth grade.  She and her husband are currently trying to adopt a baby and we are confident that they will succeed soon.

I’m looking forward to catching up with many good friends.

Most interesting/funny fact about my life thus far: My wife Lorraine has some how found a way to put up with me for thirty seven years.

Education:                  B.A. (University of Rochester, 1968); M.S. (Rensselaer

Polytechnic Institute, 1973); Ph.D. (Pennsylvania State University, 1976)

Since graduating from Garden City High School in 1964:

Immediately after graduating from U. of R., and after consulting with my draft board, I enlisted in the Unites States Army with a reserved slot in Officer Candidate School.  Following 8 weeks of Basic and Advanced Infantry Training at Ft. Dix, NJ, 6 months of OCS at Ft. Benning, GA, 7 months assignment as a 2LT Training/Executive Officer of a basic training company at Ft. Bliss, TX, and 2 weeks of Jungle School at Ft. Sherman in the Panama Canal Zone, I was assigned to command a 5-man Mobile Advisory Team in South Vietnam, where one junior lieutenant and three very experienced sergeants and I lived and worked with South Vietnamese soldiers from March of 1970 through March of 1971.  It was an unusual assignment that afforded the opportunities for community building and attempts to establish good will with our allies, as well as the “opportunities” to participate in combat operations.

My professional assignments since receiving a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology have included 20 years as Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS (the last 7 years of which were spent as Head of the Department of Psychology); 5 years as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS; and 5 years as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY.  Cathie and I both retired from our respective positions (she has put her B.S. degree in Nursing to a wide variety of uses over the years) in 2006.

Since retirement, we have spent many months each year (especially during upstate NY’s lovely winters!) traveling in our 24-ft. Class C RV.  Winters have been spent in the Florida Keys and other points south, as well as in Southern California and other points in the southwest.  We also spend as much time as possible with our 7 grandchildren in Wichita, KS (4), Lexington, KY (2), and Madison, WI (1).

Parting thought:   I never cease to be amazed by the frequency and intensity of my memories of friends and events during our years together at GCHS (and before).  New friends are great, but old friends (sorry, friends of longer duration) are very, very special.

Since graduating from Garden City High School in 1964:

Since graduating from Garden City High School in 1964: I married quite young in 1966 to a man I met in Washingtonville, NY - where we had our summer home.  We remained married until divorce separated us in 1986.  I had been a stay at home mom all those years and loved every minute of it.  Back out in the "world" again, I became an insurance agent for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida.  I re-married in `1995 to a wonderful man Frank Alfieri, we ran the insurance business together.  Frank passed away in 2004.  I left the insurance business then, without my partner, it was not the same.  I became a supervisor for Nielsen Media Research Company (the company that does the T.V. ratings.  I met and married my present husband, Bruce and we married in 2007.
I have 6 grandchildren, who are the loves of my life.  Michael has a landscaping business and has one son Michael, who is 17.
Kristina is a nurse and has 4 children and one step daughter, Joseph(18) step-granddaughter Samantha (17) Joshua (12) Jaret (10) and Emily-Sue (6).  So, come summer I will have 3 grandchildren graduating from high school - can't believe it.
Last summer we were in New York and my daughter and I walked 7th. Street and had an absolutely wonderful day, reliving old memories.

Parting thoughtGlad I grew up in the sixties.

Spouse’s name:          Ginny

Children:                     Meredith: 34, married with one son; Scott: 26, single

Occupation:                 Retired, CPA

Education:                  BS Accounting, CW Post College

Since graduating from Garden City High School in 1964:

After graduation in ’64, my foray into electrical engineering at Lehigh suffered fatally from a less-than-optimal work effort.  Back on Long Island, I attended CW Post, met Ginny, my beautiful wife of 40 years, and graduated with a BS in accounting.  College was followed by the start of an accounting career at Arthur Young & Co. and marriage with Ginny.  Then all went to hell when I was drafted into the Army.  We had the good luck of not going to Nam, but the second worst alternative was living in Fayetteville, NC where I was stationed at Ft. Bragg for nearly two years.  While there, my parents and sisters moved to Everett Washington, ending a 50 year Perrell presence in Garden City.

After returning to New York, we bought a house in Salisbury, where we still live albeit in a larger house now, and Ginny gave birth to Meredith.  I left Arthur Young to start a career in corporate finance at Union Pacific Corporation, and then joined American Express Company in 1981.  Our son Scott was born the following year.  Two years ago I retired from American Express after 25 years.  During that time, I was very active in a variety of industry and professional organizations and for nearly four years represented the United States on the International Accounting Standards Committee.

Now we spend half our time at our condo in Greenport on Long Island’s North Fork when Ginny’s not volunteering at Sagamore Hill or delivering Meals on Wheels, and when I’m not spending time on the Financial Accounting Foundation where I am a trustee.  We also enjoy spoiling our two-year old grandson whenever we can.

Parting thought:

At this point in our lives, we need to give back to our communities as best we can.

Children:  Meghan (37), Katie (34), Tommy (32), Jimmy (30), Annie (27)

Occupation: Retired; Consumer Products Marketing Exec.

Education: University of Notre Dame (BA), Adelphi University (MBA)

Hobbies/pastimes: Backpacking, travel, golf, reading, writing short stories

Since graduating from Garden City High School in 1964:

Following college and grad school, I was lucky enough to get into the National Guard during the Viet Nam war. So, happily for all of us, I have no war stories to relate.

My entire career was spent in consumer marketing and new product development. I worked for several large consumer product manufacturers of well know brands such as Skippy Peanut Butter, Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, Mazola Oil, Pepto Bismol, Chloraseptic, Windex, Drano, Renuzit, Endust, Behold, O’Cedar, and a slew of others. My specialty was new product development and after leaving the client side of the business, I started consulting at consumer product companies such as Procter & Gamble, Dial, Bristol Myers, Totes and many others.

Few people work for just one company, and I was no different. My jobs took me from Garden City to New Jersey, to Norwich, NY, to Cincinnati in 1977 and that is where I chose to stay.

I was divorced in 1987 and remarried a wonderful woman named Karen in 1990. She’s beautiful inside and out; to know her is to love her. A consultant specializing in leadership development, Karen continues to work while I run the household and address at all those challenging activities posted under hobbies & pastimes above.  We both love to travel and hike and most of our vacations involve both.

The five children mentioned above are all happy, doing well and are all very different from one another. Each of the  five went to a different college and they live all over the country. Karen and I developed a couple of traditions that “lure” them home twice a year. One is a week in Hilton Head during the summer, where we have vacationed with the (Frank) Quayles for the last 25 years or so. The other is when they come home for “Schencksgiving” (corny, eh?) right before the real Thanksgiving travel & madness each November.

I often think of various high school classmates and friends, and wonder how they are doing, and how nice or funny or athletic or talented they were when I last spent time with them. I know that not all kids have pleasant high school memories, but I think we had a really special class and the memories I hold of the “kids” back then are extremely warm and happy.

Parting Thought: OK, so we're a little older right now; let’s not lose that young-at-heart feeling and optimism with which we graduated in 1964.

Occupation:  admin./actor-singer-dancer/dog trainer/faux finisher

Education: frosh yr: architecture at Ga. Tech(Chuck Lewis was there too), BS-Business Admin., Auburn Univ. Alabama.    After 4 yrs active duty in Air Force: Elem. Educ. at Central State Univ., Edmond OK.    Started Masters pgm. in Learning Disabilities, U of Ala. Huntsville, but never finished.    AS in Massage Therapy, Keiser Univ., Melbourne FL (4.0 – summa cum laude, yea!)

Since graduating from Garden City High School in 1964:

4 yrs college, also got USAF commission (4 yrs AFROTC, incl. a scholarship).  Served 4 yrs active duty: Keesler AFB, Biloxi MS – Communications/Electronics Officer course and Computer Programming course.  While there (1969) I met Camille, a pretty wicked hurricane that devastated the area.  From there I was reassigned to Tinker AFB, Okla. City OK, where I programmed for Communications and got TDY (temp. duty) trips to Seattle-Tacoma, Ft. Detrick MD, Scott AFB in IL, and a SAC base (Offutt AFB) Omaha Neb.

While in OK City I met a great group of young adults through St. Luke’s UMC and we were very active: going skiing in N MEX and COLO in the winter, to the Texas Gulf Coast for the long Memorial Day weekends, lots of parties –including progressive dinner parties for Thanksgiving.  I had a girl friend during the last few of my 4 years there, but nothing became of it.

Moved to Huntsville AL and worked in a bank for 3 yrs, then taught school – 4th grade – for 5 months.  Then I took off for NYC, the “Big Apple”, to pursue my biggest dream in life – the stage/theatre.  I had done about 5 musicals in community theater there and had started ballet and jazz classes in Huntsville; I continued jazz in NYC, plus some modern and tap classes with some of the best teachers I could find.  I went to HB Studio – Herbert Berghof – down in the West Village, almost to the Hudson, for classes in acting, dance, speech – diction and eradication of regionalisms (accents).  I took voice lessons (Singing) privately from 3 different teachers over about an 8-yr period.  I later studied with Dan Fauci at the Actors Institute and met some aspiring performers, including Stephen Fisher, who later changed his name to FISHER STEPHENS.  My ultimate acting class was a 2-year program in the (Sanford) Meisner Technique.

My success in Show Business was not great – not like Susan Lucci – but I had some modest accomplishments, a lot of fun, and some great lessons in life, not just from theatre but from living life in New York.  I did “The Guiding Light” (soap) 6 times, about 5-6 movies; my first 2 were with Woody Allen – ZELIG (sat next to Mia Farrow in a still shot) and BROADWAY DANNY ROSE.  I worked on FATAL ATTRACTION, CROCODILE DUNDEE II, and also with Robin Williams in a TV movie, SEIZE THE DAY, by Saul Bellows.  My most satisfying success came from singing in cabarets in the city, putting the acts together, working with different pianists, getting booked at each place, drumming up an audience – I had to, nobody but friends and acquaintances knew me.

I worked 10 years for Citibank after quitting show biz, got out to Park City, UT, to ski during the Sundance Film Festival – 1995-96, also to Albuquerque NM for the big AIBF, Albuq. Int’l Balloon Fiesta (hot air balloons) and took 2 rides in them.

Have been living back in the South from which I was introduced into the world since 2000 and continue to perform in community theatre, most recently working in the musical JEKYLL & HYDE.  Great fun.  Am working now Jan-Feb 2009 as a French character, complete with Fr. Accent , in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES.  Will do the musical “1776” for the 3rd year in a row in April, this time to help the Brevard County 11th graders learn about the writing and signing of the Declaration of Independence.  I play James Wilson of PA, and he’s the final YES vote for unanimity.  Rousing and Stirring!

Well it’s been fun bringing you up to date on me.

Most salient high school memory:  THE KING & I, with Mark Scotti and Susan Lucci.  I was in the chorus as a Buddhist monk in saffron robes and body make-up to darken my skin.  I remember I hosted the cast party across the street from the high school.  One of our cast members came drunk and barfed in the back yard.  I refuse to “out” him here.

Occupation: Grandmother

Education: Green Mountain College, Vermont

I graduated from Green Mountain College and worked for an investment banker in NYC.   I met my husband Mike on a blind date at college.  He attended St. Michael’s College in Vermont.  Ironically, he turned out to be a member of the class of 1964 from Chaminade High School.    We spent 30 years in the Air Force and Mike retired as a Colonel in 1998.  We settled in Beavercreek, Ohio (suburb of Dayton) near Wright-Patterson AFB and I loved every minute of being a military wife.  We celebrate our 40th anniversary this year. I remain active in my church, hospital ministry and fundraising for the Fisher House (compassionate care facility for wounded military personnel).  Mike and I both enjoy golf, travel and spoiling the grandkids every chance we get.

Most salient high school memories:

    • Senior year Earth Science class with “Rocky Kane”
    • Mrs. Arnold’s home room
    • The most fun being a “JUG”

Children: 3 (2 boys, 1 daughter, and 1 stepson) and 4 grandchildren

Occupation: Retired

Since graduation from Garden City High School in 1964:

Oh the years how fast they go!  Married Dick Tearle in 1968, and have 3 wonderful children (the best thing I got out of the marriage). Divorced in 1981.

During most of my adult years I lived in the Northern Virginia area (Burke, Springfield) while working in telecommunications.  Married Lance in 1993, and we live in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.  I have 2 grandchildren, and he has 2 grandchildren.

I enjoy making quilts, knitting, counted cross stitch, any craft!  And also do volunteering when I can.

Right now I am struggling with breast cancer.  I was diagnosed 6 years ago with Stage IV.  As of this January (2009) I have just begun chemo again (for the 3rd time!), and I doubt if I’ll have the pleasure of coming to the reunion.  I keep hoping that they will come up with a cure!  As I know there are those of you out there who also have (or have had) some kind of cancer know, sometimes just the day can be a struggle. I have a wonderful husband, and wonderfully supportive family and community.

I would enjoy hearing from any of my “old” classmates!  Those were wonderful years, and they hold wonderful memories for me.  Especially our Halloween when we dressed up (I think we were the first class to do that), and after school was over with a bunch of you “boys” shave creamed my parents car (which I had been allowed to drive for the first time to school!).  We then went over to Lorna Litton’s house to wash off the shaving cream!  What fun.  Of course I’m sure you all also remember where you were when word came thru that JFK has been assassinated (that was our “9/11“).

I wish you all the best for the reunion!
