Reunion 2014 Notes
50th. Reunion Notes  (see Photo Albums page for pictures)

WHEN:         June 21, 2014
WHERE:       Garden City Country Club
Count:         148 classmates and guests
Experience:  Priceless

Dear Class of ’64,
For those of you not able to make the 50th year class reunion last weekend please know that you were toasted and remembered. You are part of this class and always will be, present or not.
For those of you who could make it – wow – you people really know how to party!  What a fun time.

You could feel the excitement, friendship and hilarity buzzing through Leo’s and the country club like an electric current energizing the guests as the nights rolled on. What a pleasure to see old friends belly laughing over shared memories; and the poignant moments during the memorial video, seeing and remembering friends who have passed since high school. The photo booth (Hey! Where was the “booth”?) was hilarious as friends and photo bombers goofed around in a variety of combinations and permutations. As I think about it, maybe we were lucky there was no booth…fitting into it might have presented a problem for a couple of reasonsJ

The photo booth company has made it possible for all of us to access ALL the photos taken by the photo booth Saturday night: Here is the direct LINK to your online gallery.
You can also get the pictures through our website by going to the GET YOUR PHOTOS page.
You then find and click on your event.
From there you will see a mini-gallery. At the top will be a place to enter your Password: tiki
That will take you to the main online gallery!

We know lots of pictures were taken and we want to share them with everyone, so Jim Manley is working on a process to get your pictures on to the class web site.
We’ve also had a lot of requests for a copy of the video loop that was running during dinner, and Jim is working on a process for making that happen as well. We’ll let you know when that process is ready.

Now for those who attended the reunion: Please… quickly put your nametags away in a safe place (that you will remember) so you can use it again for the next reunion. Let’s save Grant Varga a little time and effort; after all, he’s getting older.

It’s been a pleasure working with the committee and helping to make this landmark reunion a reality. I think we DO have the best class to come out of Garden City High. Not because of our teams, not because of scholars, not because of the ultimate fame and success of our graduates; rather I think we surpass all other classes based on our true caring for each other; our genuinely liking each other and sustaining the bonds we created in the 50’s and 60’s over the years and through our tomorrows. We are very special that way and we should be proud of it.
I hope to see many of you in 2019, but please keep in touch during the interim. We will keep the web site going (perhaps changing and updating it along the way) so check it on line from time to time.
Stay well and happy.

Tom Schenck
President
Garden City Class of 1964

Hi Tom.  Thanks so much for laying out the Echo copies.   I went to take care of it and saw that it was already done!  I really appreciated that!   I am glad that people took the copies.  That is what I had hoped would happen.

Thank you again for all you did for the reunion.  I know there were a lot of people involved, but honestly, it is your leadership and hard work that keeps everything going the way it has been.   You have been a gift to the class of 1964, truly.

It was a wonderful party and it was so nice to see you and everyone.

All the best wishes, Barbara Hymans

I third it. I was a little apprehensive about coming as this was my first in 50 years. It was a great party with a great group. Thanks to all for a memorable event. I wish you all the best and hope to see all at our 55th!

Safe travels as we return to our day to day lives.

Thanks again for all you did to make the 50th such a special event.  It was the best one yet!  The link to the photo booth was great.  I was so busy talking and laughing and dancing that I didn’t see much of the slide show, so I’ll be happy to see it once Jim gets it up.  I missed actually catching up with so many (including you).  I neglected to sign up for the class photo.  Can I still get a copy?

I hope you and Karen have a wonderful in France.

Hugs and kisses and lots of gratitude, love Priscilla "Sunny" Small

Tom:
I posted a short note of thanks on our GCHS'64 Facebook page but wanted to reiterate here how very special this past weekend was and how your "reign" as Class President Emeritus is not just a tribute to you but to our wisdom electing you in the first place!  If the next five years fly by as quickly as the last five did I have great hopes for that weekend surpassing this one!

Thanks to the entire committee for great work and a great party.

Our 50th Reunion was amazing and with every detail!  Everyone had so much fun and commented on all creativity and details of the event.  The Garden City Country Club was a perfect venue for this reunion.  Thanks to all for your efforts and in bringing us all together.  We look forward to the next!

Best, Jane Russo

Tom (Tommy),

A big THANK YOU for all your hard work that paid off in such a BIG way.
All the details… including the photo booth, balloons, group photo, perfect music, yummy food, choice of the Country Club, and smooth operations from start to finish… made for an unforgettable weekend.
Yes, we do have a unique class that goes way beyond  having shared those amazing four years.  We are connected, and truly enjoy being together to celebrate another milestone and party up a storm!
You and your team made it all possible.
Have a wonderful time this summer, and yes, we’ll stay in touch.

Love to all,
Denise Cleary Coleman

Again, Tom, what a wonderful event...I was blown away by how much everyone cares about each other.  On Sunday the 22nd I saw THE LION KING on B'way, and at the end I was in tears....tears of joy and happiness.  I feel the same way about being at our reunion, even tho' I did not tear up during it.  The fact that I didn't know some of the people did not make a difference - it  was good to see them and I love them.  Hope you had a safe trip home.

I go to my Reno H.S. 50th reunion, in Nevada Aug. 14-19.

Ciao for now, and YES, YOU did a great job, and we acknowledge that you had great help as well.

Tom-- it's all about leadership. You and your team were fantastic.
Bobbie Max's brother Buzzie (GCHS'65) said they have never had a reunion!  No one took the reins to make it happen.
So thank you again for your continued joyous 'chairmanship'  over all these years.  I'm still laughing over memories from the weekend .:-)

Dear Tom,

I, too, want to congratulate you and your committee on organizing an outstanding 50th GCHS Reunion.  The event could not have been better organized…or more fun!  Friday evening was so relaxing…Leo’s is a great place…and a fun time to catch up with classmates.  The Garden City Country Club was beautiful…a perfect place.  The food was excellent, music memorable, and couldn’t ask for better weather.  Thank you so much for all your hard work so we could all have a wonderful, memorable weekend.  I’m looking forward to the 55th!

Tom,

I, and my wife Bobbi, want to take a moment to thank you and all those who were involved in the planning for the GCHS64 50th reunion. Please pass these comments on to the rest of the planning classmates. The weekend was lots of fun, with all the visiting and sharing of memories and updates, as you noted.

Leo's Friday night gathering is a great way to get started, each person arriving on their time schedule as the party grows naturally.

The Saturday morning historic bus ride (even though the bus was only half full) was great, very interesting, and informative; while being presented in a light, fun manner. It would have been great if all of our teachers were as humorous while still being informative as our guide was!

The Saturday night dinner and all features of that evening were wonderful. The Garden City Country Club was a very nice step up from the 45th's very good Saturday venue. All the staff were top notch courteous. The location was just wonderful for the start of the evening with its outside gatherings, as well as the dinner, dessert, music, photo booth, etc. That was an excellent choice for that night's festivities.

Thanks again to you and everyone involved in putting together a wonderful, memorable weekend.

Tom,

Just a note to thank you for your efforts in helping us get and keep together.

This event was terrific, the weather was perfect and it was certainly a pleasure to catch up with people I have known for so long, some since 1st grade!

I know we all appreciated the efforts of you and the committee.

Thanks again and please let me know if you ever pass thru or near to Greenville, SC.
